Celtic Connections festival 2011

I enjoy many genres. In my twenties I dated a folk guitarist in Edinburgh and visited Sandy Bells and Arran folk festivals. The immediacy and passion of live traditional reels and folk songs were infectious and I was hooked.  Celtic started in 1994 when Aly Bain was the only professional fiddle player in Scotland and he wondered would they sell 100,000 tickets in January in Glasgow.....?

Celtic is one of the largest gatherings of folk music worldwide. One of the main aspects I enjoy at Celtic are the very interesting and sometimes usual collaborations.  I met Jerry Douglas last year at the Fruitmarket. I've also met Eddi Reader, John McCusker, Donald Shaw, Karen Matheson, Inge Thompson, Mat Martin, Kirsty McGee, Dick Gaughan, Phil Cunningham, Alistair Oglivie, Rab Noakes, Michael Marra, Karine Polwart at various folk music events.   Transatlantic now goes on tour after the festival, check for dates.  http://www.celticconnections.com/

VIKING GALAXY in the Studio

So interesting to see how it all works, they were on great form and managed to get 5 songs recorded in one day.

VIKING GALAXY

Formed in 2008, Viking Galaxy remained fairly low key, with the exception of the band members' excessive promotion of the band's brilliance. Until now! 2010/2011 will forever be remembered as the year when Viking Galaxy, inspired by their Nordic ancestors, conquered the world once again!

Clare Maguire

I saw Clare at the Oran Mor Glasgow supporting Hurts in October 2010. She surprised us with her bright red outfit and soaring voice!  I thought that her songs might have been stronger though. Maguire is an English singer-songwriter who was signed to Universal in 2008, her debut album, 'Light After Dark' was released in February 2011.
